Over the next 10 days I will be posting a series of Tips to an Organized Craft Area. As a confirmed obsessive-compulsive clean and organizational freak, I have been asked for advice on organizing and de-cluttering craft areas. So for the next 10 days I will bring you 10 Tips to an Organized Craft Area! To help stimulate my readers to take the steps to organize your craft area, here are 10 Benefits to Organizing your Craft Area.

10 Benefits to an Organized Craft Area

1. Motivation

Believe me when I say that a clutter-free, organized space really does motivate you to work. Coming home to a messy, cluttered craft table covered with paper, scissors, stickers, ribbon, flowers and all sorts of things really takes away your appetite for creativity, doesn’t it? When you walk into a mess like that you automatically feel a sense of dread in your stomach and think “oh man, I really don’t want to face that right now”. Having a clean, organized, clutter-free space will motivate and enable you to finish old projects and start new ones!

2. Keep Track of Your Supplies

There are so many products out there now, so many different patterns of paper, stamp collections and sticker sets that it is easy to have duplicates without meaning to. Quite a few of my tools and stamps were duplicates that someone else gave me when they forgot they already had them. Keeping things clean and organized will really help prevent buying duplicates, leaving you free to invest in other products!

3. Take Better Care of Your Materials

Leaving things in chaotic piles and clumps all over is not a good way to take care of your things. Your fragile pieces like paper and stickers get bent and the edges get messed up. Ribbon gets crinkled and wrinkled and somehow in the mess inks lose their lids and dry out. Keeping things clean, organized and clutter free will ensure that your paper crafting materials stay pristine and ready to use!

4. Know Where to Find Everything

Have you ever tried to find a piece of paper, stamp, or bit of ribbon and it ends up taking you at least an hour going through drawer after drawer and box after box trying to find it? Imagine how much crafting you would accomplish in that amount of time! Keeping things well organized and clearly labeled will eliminate a lot of that searching time, leaving you free to devote yourself to creativity.

5. Promotes Creativity

Say what you want about “creative chaos” but it is a lot easier to be creative, and your creative thoughts will flow better in a clutter-free environment. Trust me.

6. Keeps Your Tools in Good Condition

It is easy for paper cutters, rulers and scissors to become lost in a sea of paper and embellishments. Leaving them out in the midst of all that paper can dull them and decrease their life-span. having a clutter-free and organized craft area, putting those implements away, will help you get the most out of your tools.

7. Bigger Creative Space

Ever notice how your craft table gets smaller and smaller until you barely have enough space to cut a 3″x3″ square? Keep things free of clutter and your space will feel endless!

8. Easier to finish and start new projects

It is very discouraging to work in a cluttered, unorganized craft room trying to finish a project, then move on to the next one in the midst of a mess. Going from one project to the next feels like trying to walk from one end to the other in a mud pit. It just drags you down. Keeping your craft area clutter-free and organized will keep you energized and ease the flow from one project to the next!

9. Feeling of productivity and accomplishment

Maybe it is just me, but when I walk into a clean, organized craft room I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. I feel an excitement about working in a clean space and am far more productive than in a cluttered room. Pat yourself on the shoulder for a job well done and a room well organized!

10. Will feel like a new room every time you enter to create

As odd as it sounds, it will feel like a new space every time you walk into your organized and clutter-free craft area. Especially if your craft room usually looks like a tornado blew through! It will feel bigger, brighter, cleaner, and will give you a feeling of tranquility to work in an organized and clutter-free space!
